Data Collection

We respect your privacy. This is why we have taken the time to disclose our information collection practices and our privacy policy. Please take the time to review this document.

Collecting information provides specific benefits to our website visitors:

The Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) respects the privacy of users of its Web sites. DTP does not disclose, give, sell, or transfer any personal information about visitors unless required to do so by law. DTP automatically collects a limited amount of information about the use of its Web sites for statistical purposes, that is, to measure the numbers of visitors. This information may also be helpful when considering changes to make the site more useful to visitors. The following information about users of the DTP Web sites is collected and stored automatically: The Internet domain from which a user has accessed the Internet. The Internet protocol (IP) address of the computer that was used to access the Internet. The name and version of the user's computer operating system and Internet browser. If a user comes to dtp.nci.nih.gov from another Web site, the Internet address of the "referring" Web site. The date, time, and duration of the user's visit to dtp.nci.nih.gov, and the pages visited. Federal government Web sites are generally prohibited from using persistent cookies and this site does not employ them. When inquiries are received by e-mail, the questions and the e-mail address of the sender are stored electronically to allow time for a response to be researched, written, and sent. Unless otherwise required by law, DTP will not identify anyone who sends questions or comments to its Web site. DTP does not collect information that will allow users to be identified personally unless they choose to provide such information. If children send questions or comments to DTP web sites and include their name and/or home mailing address as part of their message, the information will be used only to respond to them personally. Providing this type of information is optional, and DTP suggests that children obtain their parents' permission before providing any information online, to DTP Web sites or any other Web sites. DTP Web sites have links to many other Web sites. DTP cannot guarantee the privacy or security of information users provide to linked external Web sites.

Cookies

While visiting sites within the NIH.GOV domain, you may occasionally encounter a Web page that employs “cookies”. A cookie is a small file that a Web site transfers to your computer's hard disk allowing our server to "remember" specific information about your session while you are connected.

Requests to send cookies from NIH Web pages are not designed to collect information about you, but only about your browser "session." The cookie makes it easier for you to use the dynamic features of these Web pages. The cookie and the information about your session will be destroyed automatically shortly after you close your browser — it is not permanently stored on your computer. Unless an NIH web page specifically notifies you otherwise, we will not collect and maintain personal information about you.

To protect your privacy, be sure to close your browser completely after you have finished conducting business with a Web site that uses cookies. If you are concerned about the potential use of information gathered from your computer by cookies, you can set your browser to prompt you before it accepts a cookie. Most Internet browsers have settings that let you identify and/or reject cookies.
