R21 Funding Opportunity

The NHLBI has released a new R21 funding opportunity to support secondary dataset analysis. Data can come from a variety of sources including the datasets available through BioLINCC. The first receipt date is February 20, 2013.

Secondary Dataset Analyses in Heart, Lung, and Blood Diseases and Sleep Disorders (R21) http://grants1.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-13-009.html

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to stimulate well-focused secondary analyses of existing human datasets to test innovative hypotheses concerning the epidemiology, pathophysiology, prevention or treatment of diseases/conditions relevant to the NHLBI mission. Analyzing existing datasets in novel ways provides a cost-effective method to address research questions and generate preliminary data for subsequent research proposals.

RFI: Building an MDS National Resource

NHLBI and NCI are seeking input on building an MDS National Resource

The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the National Cancer Institute have released a Request for Information (RFI) titled "Building a National Resource to Study Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)" at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-HL-12-147.html.

The RFI is seeking input from the MDS community (practitioners, scientific researchers, patients and patient advocacy groups) on the feasibility and design of a proposed MDS natural history study. The study being considered would collect, store, and make available to the wider scientific community, biospecimens and data to facilitate research leading to a better understanding of disease progression. Responses are being accepted through September 20, 2012.
