Effective program oversight and audit resolution are important to ensuring proper stewardship of Federal funds. The COFAR is leading a pilot study of selected Federal assistance programs to increase the number of “clean” audit opinions as resulted from the Single Audit of grantees through proactive use of cooperative audit resolution mechanisms. Results of the study are expected to lead to improved program integrity, reduced risk of waste, fraud, abuse, and improper payments of Federal funds, coupled with better audit findings and stronger oversight of major programs.
