Miscellaneous Applications

  • Enterprise Geographic Information System - an enterprise GIS system for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) by Esri.
  • TOXMAP - a Geographic Information System (GIS) from the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) that uses maps of the United States to help users visually explore data from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)'s Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) and Superfund Program.
  • Mapping & Analysis for Public Safety (MAPS) - a National Institute of Justice (NIJ) program to promote research, evaluation, development, and dissemination of GIS technology for criminal justice research and practice.
  • Satellite Images of Mali Villages - A team of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) researchers used satellite images of two villages in Mali to help them decide where to place sand fly traps part of an effort to control leishmaniasis.

Centers for Disease Control (CDC)

  • Geographic Analysis Tool for Health & Environmental Research (GATHER) - an online spatial data access system that provides members of the public health community and general public access to spatial data that is pertinent to the analysis and exploration of public health issues.
  • Heart Disease and Stroke Maps - interactive state maps presenting heart disease and stroke mortality rates, county-by-county, for the state, racial/ethnic group, and gender of your choice.
  • Injury Maps - an interactive atlas with which you can create county-level and state-level maps of age-adjusted rates of injury-related mortality for the entire United States and for individual states.
  • West Nile Virus Homepage - includes maps showing West Nile Virus activity in the US.
  • Diabetes Maps - slide presentations with maps showing diabetes and gestational diabetes trends among adults in the United States.

Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC)

  • Federal Geographic Data Committee - an interagency committee which is developing the National Spatial Data Infrastructure.
  • National Spatial Data Infrastructure - defined as the technologies, policies, and people necessary to promote sharing of geospatial data throughout all levels of government, the private and non-profit sectors, and the academic community.
  • National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse - a searchable collection of over 250 spatial data servers containing digital geographic data primarily for use in GIS, image processing systems, and other modelling software.
