EZpay™

Overview

EZpay is a cash management tool designed to support U.S. military personnel training in the Army, Air Force, and Marines. The program, which improves convenience for trainees, was developed and is managed jointly by the U.S. Army, Air Force, Marines and U.S. Department of the Treasury. The program uses smart-card technology and off-line batch processing to take workload out of the base Finance Office, thus freeing up military personnel for other essential duties. In addition, trainees are benefited by the security of the card instead of previous methods of payment which included cash, money orders, and paper chits. EZpay cards are issued at all Army, Air Force, and Marine Basic Training sites in the U.S. and selected officer training locations.

EZpay cards are a type of payment card referred to as Stored Value Cards (SVC). The SVC comes pre-loaded with either $300, $350 or $400 depending on service as the trainee's advance of their first pay. Most trainees arrive without bank accounts, so this allows them time to set up an account for future direct deposits of their pay. Funds on the card can be used to purchase goods and services at the Post Exchange or Base Exchange, Military Clothing, on-post bank, and most concessionaires on base.

EZpay has been in existence since 1997 and can be found on nine U.S. military installations. As of June 2010, 2.2 million cards have been issued, 16.9 million transactions performed and $618 million in physical currency replaced.
