Medicare Cuts to Tennessee Will Have a $13.3 Billion Economic Impact

NASHVILLE, TN, Feb. 7, 2013—The Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) today released a study that projects the extended impact of $5.6 billion in Medicare cuts to Tennessee hospitals already in place. Coupled with other cuts being considered in Washington, these hospital reductions would have a $13.3 billion recessionary impact on Tennessee’s communities as the cuts are phased in over the next decade.

Tennessee Hospitals Face Medicare Cuts As High As $7.4 Billion

NASHVILLE, TN, January 29, 2013--Hospitals in Tennessee stand to lose as much as $7.4 billion in Medicare reimbursement over the next 10 years and, absent a way to balance those reductions, many hospitals will have to cut services and expenses, Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) President Craig Becker said today.

Hospitals, Health Systems Urged to Participate in Agenda 21 Program

Tennessee hospitals and health systems are strongly urged to sign up to participate in the 2013 Agenda 21 program. For nearly two decades, THA's Agenda 21 internship program has operated with the mission of matching minority healthcare students with hospital executives for summer internships in hospitals across the state. Given recent action by the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the THA board of directors to encourage diversity in hospital governance and leadership as a way of combating healthcare disparities, the Agenda 21 program has never been more relevant.
