American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA)

Consistent with the intent of the Recovery Act, NIEHS Recovery Act funding is accelerating research in critical environmental health areas while creating jobs in communities across the country. NIEHS awarded 346 grants to 152 U.S. institutions in 42 states. Approximately $114M went to support new two-year research projects, while close to $50M went to support existing research. NIEHS also invested $1.1 million to support summer research positions for students and teachers.
