Figure 4.6 is a stacked bar graph that shows the frequency of past month cigarette use among current cigarette smokers aged 12 or older in 2002 by age group. Among youths aged 12 to 17, the frequencies of past month smoking were as follows: 31.8 percent smoked 30 days during the past month, 45.7 percent smoked between 3 and 29 days during the past month, and 22.5 percent smoked 1 to 2 days during the past month. Among young adults aged 18 to 25, 51.8 percent smoked 30 days, 36.2 percent smoked between 3 and 29 days, and 12.1 percent smoked 1 to 2 days during the past month. Among persons aged 26 or older, 68.8 percent smoked 30 days, 22.7 smoked between 3 and 29 days, and 8.4 percent smoked 1 to 2 days during the past month.
