Figure 4.4 is a bar graph depicting percentages of past month cigarette use among persons aged 12 or older in 2002 by racial and ethnic groups. Past month cigarette use was 37.1 percent among American Indian/Alaska Natives and 35.0 percent among persons who indicated two or more races. Among persons aged 12 or older, 26.9 percent of whites, 25.3 percent of blacks, 23.0 percent of Hispanics, and 17.7 percent of Asians had smoked cigarettes in the past month.
