A Healthy Baby Begins with You and You and You September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month and the Office of Minority Health is encouraging everyone to get involved to help reduce the infant mortality rate, particularly in minority communities. The theme is A Healthy Baby Begins with You and You and You.

To actually tackle the issue, healthcare professionals, grandparents, husbands, friends, family members, employers, neighbors and government policymakers can help positively impact infant mortality rates through education, support and policy. Neighborhoods, workplaces, community centers and places of worship can serve as prime locations for awareness building. Combining this with the implementation of culturally competent practices and the utilization of CLAS, these components will help decrease health disparities and bring about health equity. Place, race, and income do matter, but there are ways to account for them and address them in order to have a more holistic and effective approach to patient care.
