  1. Congratulations to the University of Louisville football program -- Coach Charlie Strong, his staff and, most of all, the student-athletes. They should be very proud of their achievements this season, which culminated in last night's Sugar Bowl victory.
  2. On today's early-morning fiscal cliff vote in the Senate: "Americans began ringing in the new year moments ago, many with the uncertainty of their financial stability as a result of the fiscal cliff negotiations we have heard so much about over the past weeks.

"While I appreciate my colleagues’ efforts to protect taxpayers – I don’t think the deal we reached tonight went far enough in achieving that. The combination of raising taxes and increasing spending is not in Americans’ best interest, and I could not, in good faith, support this piece of legislation.

"I will continue my fight for the American taxpayers and small businesses in the 113th Congress."

  4. It’s impossible to get to any deal on the fiscal cliff when Majority Leader Reid and President Obama refuse to consider meaningful cuts in spending. They are demanding we raise taxes on working families and small businesses – and worse – using these tax increases for more government spending. Sending more taxpayer dollars to Washington isn’t the solution to this situation; cutting wasteful government spending and enabling Americans to keep more of their own money is.
  5. Spoke earlier with CNBC host Maria Bartiromo on today's developments regarding the "fiscal cliff."

  6. Nine-year-old Kentucky native Dalton Dingus suffers from cystic fibrosis. One of his wishes is to break the world record for receiving the most Christmas cards. Let’s send our thoughts, prayers, and Christmas cards to Dalton as he battles every day to beat the odds of cystic fibrosis.
  7. My thoughts & prayers are with the children, parents, teachers and community in Connecticut as they deal with the tragic loss of life today.
  8. No one should be forced to join or pay dues in order to work. I offer my congratulations to the Michigan state legislature on their hard work on and passage of Right to Work legislation.
