Irene Prabhu Das
Irene Prabhu Das is a Health Sciences Specialist in the Outcomes Research Branch of the
Applied Research Program. She earned her PhD in Health Promotion, Education, and
Behavior from the University of South Carolina and her MPH in Epidemiology from UCLA. Dr.
Prabhu Das's broad experience in cancer prevention and control includes four years of
intervention research at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, coordinating breast
and cervical cancer research projects, and over 14 years of public health practice at the
South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, as epidemiologist,
surveillance and evaluation coordinator, and as Director for the Division of Cancer
Prevention and Control. Her focus in South Carolina was building academic partnerships to
integrate research in program management, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Dr. Prabhu Das joined the NCI in 2006 as a Public Health Advisor on the Dissemination
and Diffusion Team, in the Office of the Director within DCCPS. Her work involved
understanding cancer survivorship priorities at the state level, facilitating the
dissemination, adoption and implementation of evidence-based interventions via the Cancer
Control P.L.A.N.E.T., and dissemination and implementation research. Currently, she is
primarily involved with the evaluation of the NCI Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP)
pilot initiative. She is actively involved in branch initiatives examining multilevel
cancer care as well as e-health applications in health systems in collaboration with the
Behavioral Research Program.
