Let's Discuss! Engaging Communities for Adaptation and Implementation

In fall of 2011, the NCI launched a pilot mentorship program designed to build the capacity of practitioners in navigating the complex process and context of translating evidence-based interventions into practice as well as enhance the dialogue between research and practice. In the October and November cyber-seminars, we heard from the mentees and saw examples from their programs.  For November, we had three great presentations that focused on working with community partners for the adaptation and implementaiton of evidence-based interventions.  Kiameesha Evans spoke about the Body & Soul program in New Jersey; Venice Haynes, discussed the adaption of a cervical cancer screening program, ¡Con Amor Aprendemos! ( “With Love We Learn”) for African American churches in Georgia; and Charlene shared her experience adapting and implementing Pool Cool in rural Idaho.

Now it is your turn to share your experience and knowledge...ask a question of the speakers or your fellow R2R members, share your stories of adaptation and community engagement.  What lessons have you learned or additional tools have you used that others might benefit from?  How do you think public health professionals and researchers could better work collaboratively with each other, and with communities, to adapt and implement programs that are effective and appropriate for the intended populations?

Join us in the discussion! Want to learn more about the projects and mentees and engage with them through the mentorship stories.
