SAMHSA is accepting applications for up to $40 million in Strategic Prevention Framework Partnership for Success II grants

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for Strategic Prevention Framework Partnerships for Success II grants totaling up to $40 million over the course of a three year period. The program is designed to address two of the nation’s top substance abuse prevention priorities: 1) underage drinking among persons aged 12 to 20; and 2) prescription drug misuse and abuse among persons aged 12 to 25.

This program provides an opportunity for the recipients of the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant that are not currently receiving funding through SAMHSA’s Partnerships for Success or Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grants to acquire additional resources to provide prevention services in their communities.  These services would be carefully coordinated in terms of resources and priorities at the federal, state, and community level.

SAMHSA expects that up to $40 million will be available to fund up to 18 grantees, at up to $1.2 million per grant, for three years.  Awards will be based on a set of standard criteria that account for: a) prevalence rates of underage drinking among persons aged 12 to 20 in eligible states/jurisdictions; b) prevalence rates of nonmedical use of pain relievers among persons aged 12 to 25 in eligible states/jurisdictions; and c) average costs of delivering alcohol and other drug prevention and treatment services.  The award amounts may also vary depending on the number of grants awarded and the overall availability of funds.

WHO CAN APPLY: Eligibility for this program is limited to the recipients of the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant that have completed a Cohort I, II or III Strategic Prevention Framework State Initiative Grant and are currently not receiving funds through SAMHSA’s Partnerships for Success grant. See Section III-1 of this RFA for complete eligibility information.
