zLinux Virtual Server Hosting

The zLinux Virtual Server Hosting service provides open source servers for NIH Data Center customers. The zLinux Virtual Hosting Server is based on the zEnterprise server platform that supports the z/VM (virtual machine) operating system and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to run multiple virtual Linux servers.

 
Additional services on zLinux include:
 
  • Blogs: public online journals run on WordPress;
  • LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/PERL)-based applications: an interlocking set of technologies on which developers can build and deploy web-based applications;
  • Wikis: collaborative websites where authorized users can add or modify content using their browser;
  • Apache-based front end to an MS SQL server database;
  • Statistical packages and a wide variety of other software (such as clustering software);
  • Content Management Software (e.g., Joomla, Drupal, WordPress)
