You can determine what your state requirements for name changes are by contacting a local lawyer, contacting your county court, or looking up the state statutes in a law library.
After the Name Change Occurs
- Notify the Social Security Administration (SSA)
- Get a Social Security Replacement Card
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) updates their records 10 days after the SSA records the name change.
