Specimen Types
The CGB obtain biospecimens from patients entered on cancer clinical trials supported through the NCI’s Clinical Trials Cooperative Group Program. Typically these are large phase II or phase III therapeutic trials and the specimens are associated with detailed, clinical and outcome data. The anatomic site and type of specimen(s) collected vary based on the scientific goals of the trial.
Examples of banked biospecimens include:
- formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor and normal tissue
- fresh frozen tumor and normal tissue
- serum
- plasma
- blood
- urine
- genomic DNA
- bone marrow
Protocol-specific information for Cooperative Group cancer clinical trials under which most specimens were collected can be found at ClinicalTrials.gov and/or by querying the group bank responsible for biospecimen procurement for the trial.
