User Information

Planning for Arrival:

Contact the User Office several weeks before arriving at LANSCE.
The LANSCE User Office will assist you in preparing for your visit to LANSCE.

Plan to arrive one day prior to your scheduled beam time.

Non-U.S. Citizens:

  • Prior LANL and Department of Energy (DOE) approval is required.
  • PI's sending a non-U.S. citizen to conduct experiments must inform the User Office prior to the experiment start date.
  • Expect 4 to 8 weeks for processing and approval.

Arrival at LANSCE:

For directions or other instructions contact the User Office/Visitor Center. Please report to the front desk of the LANSCE User Office/Visitor Center: TA-53-Bulding 1.

The LANSCE Visitor Center will guide you through the check-in process, direct you to training, and issue you withe appropriate badges.
The Visitor Center will also help you with any request or questions you may have during your visit.

U.S. Citizen Access

  • All users scheduled through the User Office will be allowed through the TA-53 guard gate on the date they are expected. You must provide picture identification to the guard.
  • Notify the User Office is your arrival date changes.
  • Initial access to LANSCE is available only during normal business hours, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday unless special arrangements have been made in advance with the User Office.
  • You will be badged at the Visitor Center.

Experiment Schedule

You will be notified of your experiment schedule at least 3-6 weeks prior to your start date.

Experiment Coordination

It is important that you contact your instrument scientist and experiment coordinator as soon as you revive your experiment start date

If you need special sample holder or ancillary equipment, you must make arrangements with your instrument scientist at least 6 weeks before you experiment is due to start.

Shipping Samples and Equipment

Contact your facility's experiment coordinator to make arrangements for:

  • transport and storage of your samples/equipment to and from LANSCE,
  • sample environments needed for your experiments,
  • Health, Safety and Radiation Protection (HSR),
  • Health Physics Operations (HSR-1),
  • shipping addresses
  • shipping time-frame, information aggregation and surveys.

All radioactive materials, sources or other hazardous materials must be in compliance with the U.S. Department of Transportation.

All electrical equipment must be inspected by a group Electrical Safety Officer.

Training

Required training guidelines will be sent to you prior to your visit.
