The document provides information on how the guidelines were developed; describes the current overweight and obesity epidemics; and provides recommendations for building healthy eating patterns, balancing calories to manage weight, reducing less healthy foods and food components, increasing healthier foods and nutrients, and helping Americans make healthy choices.
