Fishes: East Pacific

Description

This App is the first of a set of 3 portable identification guides for Apple touch-screen devices from the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute that will cover the regional shore-fish faunas of all three neotropical biogeographic marine regions: the Tropical Eastern Pacific, the Greater Caribbean (Caribbean and nearby areas) and Brazil.

This Fishes: East Pacific App was adapted from the website Shorefishes of the tropical eastern Pacific: online information system (www.stri.org/sftep), which was published in late 2008. That website was derived from a CD format system of the same name, published in 2002, which in turn was developed from English (1994) and Spanish (1998) books of the same title.

This App provides a set of portable identification tools functionally equivalent to those in the website edition. While that website requires an ongoing internet connection to function, the App works independently of the web after being downloaded. Fishes: East Pacific works wherever an iPhone can go. As well as acting as an ID Guide this App also allows users to make and organize lists that record information about fishes in the App’s database, and can be downloaded by email.

- Language Interfaces
This App includes complete English and Spanish language interfaces. The user is automatically connected to the interface that relates to the language set in the preferences of the device.
