(202) 874-5770 OCC Supports Efforts To Establish A Single, Toll-Free Number for Bank Customers Seeking Regulator AssistanceWASHINGTON — John G. Walsh, Chief of Staff for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, told a House Financial Services subcommittee today that the OCC strongly supports efforts to make it easier for bank customers to register questions and concerns with the right financial regulator. "Development of a single, toll-free number, in coordination with the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, would make it easier for consumers to register a complaint or inquiry with the appropriate banking regulator," Mr. Walsh said in a hearing before the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. "It would eliminate the burden of searching through dozens of phone numbers, the frustration consumers experience when being referred to another agency, and most delays that result from misdirected calls."
