I'm a Veteran! (Top)

As a Veteran you have several options available to you to obtain a DS Logon. These options are listed in order to provide you with the highest level of access as quickly as possible. You must be enrolled in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) to obtain a DS Logon.

  1. Remote Proofing
    This process is used to verify your identity with the VA remotely (via telephone). To be eligible for this option you must have previously established your identity with the VA and have the ability to verify your latest Electronic Fund Transfers (EFT) on the day of Remote Proofing. To take advantage of this option, please call 800-827-1000 and have the following information available.
    • Full name (Last name used while in service may be different than what is provided)
    • Social Security Number
    • Checking or Savings Account Number
    • Dollar amount of most recent Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT)
  2. In-person Proofing at a VA Regional Office (VARO)
    This process is used to verify your identity in person with the VA. You can visit one of the 50+ VA Regional Offices throughout the country (See VA Regional Office Locations below).
    • Before visiting a VARO, please locate your two I9 Identity Documents. (See I-9 Documents Listed Below)
    • While at the VARO, please make sure the Operator has your current address in the DS Logon Access Station.
    • Your Activation letter, containing your activation pin number, will be sent to your address of record within 5-12 business days.
  3. Upgrade via In-person Proofing at a VA Regional Office (VARO)
    This process is similar to the process mentioned above, however, you already have a Basic account. As a result, you are simply looking to Upgrade your DS Logon to a Premium account.
    • Before visiting a VARO, please locate your two I9 Identity Documents. (See I-9 Documents Listed Below)
    • VARO personnel will automatically upgrade your access level from Basic to Premium, using the DS Access Station tool provided to them by DMDC.
    • You will then be able to use your newly upgraded Premium account at home to access various VA and DoD sites.
    • No Activation Letter will be mailed to you.
  4. Basic Registration
    You may obtain a DS Logon Basic account by completing a simple registration process online. However, many applications do not allow access with a Basic account. Therefore, it is recommended that you obtain a DS Logon account by completing one of the options listed above.

I'm a Service Member! (Top)

As a Service Member you have several options available to you to obtain a DS Logon. These options are listed in order to provide you with the highest level of access as quickly as possible. You must be enrolled in Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) to obtain a DS Logon.

  1. Common Access Card (CAC) Registration
    As a CAC card holder, you are able to quickly obtain a DS Logon account by authenticating online with your CAC. From the CAC registration screen, simply insert your CAC into a CAC reader and enter your PIN. You will then be prompted to choose a personalized password, select questions and answers from a list of challenge questions, and select an image that will be displayed for future logon attempts. You may also register for a DS Logon account for your spouse and eligible dependents (18 or over).
  2. Defense Financial Account Service (DFAS) Registration
    You may quickly obtain a DS Logon account by authenticating with your DFAS myPay account. From the DFAS registration screen, simply enter your myPay Login ID and password. You will then be prompted to choose a personalized password, select questions and answers from a list of challenge questions, and select an image that will be displayed for future logon attempts. You may also register for a DS Logon account for your spouse and eligible dependents (18 or over).
  3. Remote Proofing
    First you will need to obtain and log in with a basic account. Then you may begin the remote proofing process by upgrading your basic account. After answering a short questionnaire and verifying your personal information, your basic account will be upgraded to a premium DS Logon account.
  4. RAPIDS
    You may obtain a DS Logon if you are getting a new military ID card issued. You can locate the nearest RAPIDS facility at: RAPIDS Site Locator
  5. TRICARE Service Centers
    You may request a DS Logon at TSCs after completing an in-person identity proofing process. To locate a TSC, visit Tricare Contact Information or follow the links below to search by region. We recommend that you call TRICARE first to confirm that in-person proofing for a DS Logon is available at your local TSC. Once you have requested a DS Logon account, you will receive a DS Logon activation code with instructions via U.S. mail in 7-12 business days.

    TSC LOCATORS BY REGION:
    If you are not sure of the TRICARE Region in which you live, you can refer to the TRICARE Region Map. Before visiting a TSC, please locate your two I9 Identity Documents. (See I9 list below). While at the TSC, please make sure the Operator has your current address. Your Activation letter, containing your activation pin number, will be sent to your address of record within 5-12 business days.
  6. Basic Registration

I'm a Dependent! (Top)

As a Service Member Dependent (e.g. Eligible Family Members (18 or over)) you may obtain a DS Logon by:

  1. Sponsor's Common Access Card (CAC) Registration
    Your military Sponsor is able to request a DS Logon on your behalf using their CAC card. Once your Sponsor has requested your account, an activation letter will be mailed within 5-12 business days with your activation PIN. Once received, activate your account online on this website. Upon activation, you will be prompted to choose a personalized password, select questions and answers from a list of challenge questions, and select an image that will be displayed for future logon attempts.
  2. Sponsor's DFAS Registration
    Your military Sponsor is able to request a DS Logon on your behalf using their DFAS myPay account. Once your Sponsor has requested your account, an activation letter will be mailed within 5-12 business days with your activation PIN. Once received, activate your account online on this website. Upon activation, you will be prompted to choose a personalized password, select questions and answers from a list of challenge questions, and select an image that will be displayed for future logon attempts.
  3. Remote Proofing

  1. Sponsor's Common Access Card (CAC) Registration
    If you have a CAC in your possession, you are able to quickly obtain a DS Logon account by authenticating online with your CAC.   2. Sponsor's Defense Financial Account Service (DFAS) Registration

Identity Proofing Locations (Top)

You are able to obtain a Premium DS Logon after completing an in-person proofing process. Today in-person proofing is performed primarily at VA Regional Offices (VARO) and TRICARE Service Centers (TSC). If visiting a TSC, we recommend that you call the TRICARE facility first to confirm that in-person proofing for a DS Logon is available at that location.

Two forms of documentation are required to prove your identity. Prior to visiting a VA Regional Office or TSC, please locate and bring two forms of documentation that prove your identity. (See I-9 Documents below).

TRICARE Service Centers
You may request a DS Logon at TSCs after completing an in-person identity proofing process. To locate a TSC, visit Tricare Contact Information or follow the links below to search by region. We recommend that you call TRICARE first to confirm that in-person proofing for a DS Logon is available at your local TSC. Once you have requested a DS Logon account, you will receive a DS Logon activation code with instructions via U.S. mail in 7-12 business days.

I-9 Documents (Top)

The following documents are designated as acceptable for the purpose of in-person identity proofing. The applicants name must be the addressee on the document, and the document must be dated within the last 30 days.

  • Permanent or Temporary resident card.
