NOTE: SSN/ITIN/EINs can only be entered in the SSN/ITIN/EIN field.
If an SSN/ITIN/EIN is entered in any other field, NPPES will display an error message,
indicating that an SSN/ITIN/EIN has been entered in a non SSN/ITIN/EIN field.
You are required to update those fields in order to continue to the
next page in the application. If a 9-digit contiguous number is entered in a
non numeric field and the 9-digit number is not the SSN/ITIN/EIN entered on the record,
NPPES will display a warning message, indicating that a 9-digit contiguous number has
been found in a non numeric field when the Next button is clicked.
You can either update the field value or click the Next button again to accept
the 9-digit number.
