Section508 Good Practices

Beginning in 2007, the GSA BuyAccessible-Governance team has been reviewing random solicitations from FedBizOpps to determine how well federal solicitations for EIT are meeting the requirements set by Section 508 and governing procurement regulations. The details of this activity were first announced in OMB Memorandum for the Chief Acquisition Officers and Chief Information Officers dated November 6, 2007 Memorandum for the Chief Acquisition Officers and Chief Information Officers [MS Word].

Part of the resulting benefit of the reviews has been the opportunity to identify good practices many agencies are using to ensure solicitations meet the requirements of Section 508. What constitutes a “good practice”?

Over the next few months the GSA BuyAccessible-Governance team, using input from other sources in the 508 and procurement communities, will establish criteria for a “good practice.” The criteria will be published on this site along with designated good practices.

How does a practice get designated a “good practice”?

The section 508 Working Group will be tasked with reviewing potential candidates for “good practices.” Candidate practices can be submitted to the GSA BuyAccessible team for initial review for consideration by the Working Group.
