How to Find Studies by Topic or on a Map

How to Browse for Studies by Topic
Choose See Studies by Topic from the Find Studies menu or click on Studies by Topic at the top of any page to browse for studies using any of the following six main categories:
- Conditions
- Rare diseases
- Drug interventions
- Dietary supplements
- Sponsor/Collaborators (for example, "National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)")
- Locations (for example, "United States, New York")
Within these categories, you can browse by clicking on either an Alphabetical (A-Z) list or a list organized by subcategory. Note: The Rare Diseases category is only alphabetical and does not include a list of subcategories.
Example
- Choose See Studies by Topic from the Find Studies menu or click on Studies by Topic at the top of the page.
- Under Conditions, click on By Category to see the list of condition subcategories.
- Click on Cancers and Other Neoplasms to see a list of types of cancers and neoplasms.
- Click on Breast Neoplasms to see a search results list of all studies involving breast neoplasms (breast cancer).
The first column of the search results list, Rank, indicates the order in which the studies are listed. Studies that most closely match your search terms are listed first. The Status column shows which studies are open, or recruiting new volunteers (in green text), and which studies are closed, or not recruiting new volunteers (in red text).
The subcategory words will be highlighted in the text of each of the study records found by your search. Subcategory words will be highlighted in pink, and synonyms for those words will be highlighted in yellow. For example, the words "breast" and "neoplasms" will be highlighted in pink wherever they appear in each record. Synonyms for breast neoplasms, such as breast cancer, will be highlighted in yellow.
How to Browse for Studies on a Map
Choose See Studies on a Map from the Find Studies menu to browse for studies conducted in a particular region, country, state, or province. You will first see a global map with the total number of studies located in each region. Click on a region to see a more detailed map of the countries, states, or provinces in that region.
Click on a country, state, or province to see a list of all studies with locations in that area. Studies with multiple locations are included in each region where the study has locations. Studies with no locations provided are not included in the total numbers or on the map.
An alphabetical list of the displayed countries, states, or provinces with their corresponding number of studies is provided below each map. Click on the "[studies]" link next to a country, state, or province to see a list of all the studies with locations in that area.
Example
- Choose See Studies on a Map from the Find Studies menu.
- Click on the United States.
- You will then see a map of only the United States, with numbers on each State indicating how many studies are located there.
- An alphabetical list of States and the number of studies is below the map.
- Click on any State on the map or on a "[studies]" link in the list to see a list of all the studies conducted in that State.
