VAVS Partners with the American Legion for National Day of Service Event

On January 19, 2013 people from all across the country gathered here in Washington, DC to kick off the 57th Presidential Inauguration by participating in the National Day of Service Summit on the National Mall. The event, which started as a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., featured over 100 organizations and opportunities to serve in the areas of health, education, community resilience, economic development, Veterans and military families, faith, and environment. VA sponsors Welcome Home events around the country for returning military service members and their families. The events provide important information and guidance on accessing health care and other benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs. What are you worth?
Volunteers are an invaluable resource for the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is impossible to calculate the amount of caring and sharing that VAVS volunteers provide to veteran patients. VAVS volunteers are a priceless asset to the Nation's veterans and to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

President's United We Serve
VA Voluntary Service (VAVS) has joined President Barack Obama’s United We Serve initiative. VAVS is committed to engaging American citizens in service during the summer months and provide lasting benefits to the veterans and communities in which they live through volunteer service.
