Q: I will be visiting the NIH; can I get access to the Internet while I am there?
A: Yes, the NIH Guest Network provides patients, visitors, and vendors access to the Internet and NIH public resources.
Q:Do I need to pre-authorized for NIH's Guest Network?
A:No, you don’t need to be pre-authorized for using the NIH’s Guest Network.
Q: Do I need to configure my machine to access NIH’s Guest Network?
A: Yes. You will need to configure your wireless to connect to “NIH-Guest-Network” by selecting it from available wireless networks. SSID “NIH-Guest-Network” is open and in broadcast mode so you should be able to see it in your available wireless networks.
Q: Do I need a WEP key or WPA2 passphrase to connect to NIH’s Guest Network?
A:No. NIH Guest Network is completely open and you don’t need any key / passphrase/password to connect to it.
Q: Why do I get “Access Denied” for some websites when using the NIH’s Guest Network?
A: NIH does filter and monitor traffic on NIH Guest Network. If NIH determines that certain sites are in-appropriate or present a security threat to the network we will block user’s access to it and you could be presented with “Access Denied” page .

Can I use NIH Guest Network to access the Virtual Private Network (VPN) and connect to my corporate resources?
A:Yes. Using a Web browser after you accept Terms and Conditions you can VPN to access your corporate resources. Q: What is the difference between an NIH Guest Network and an NIH Onsite Wireless VPN?
A: The NIH Guest Network allows patients, guests, visitors and vendors the privilege of accessing the Internet and NIH public resources only, with no access to NIH internal resources. NIH personnel using NIH Onsite Wireless VPN are allowed access to all NIH internal resources.
