The NRD also hosts the Veterans Job Bank, a central resource for Veterans that provides quick and easy access to thousands of public and private sector job openings.

There are several different ways to find the information you need on the NRD, including:

  • Veterans Job Bank - Search & Advanced Search
  • NRD Resources - Search & Advanced Search
  • Information by Subject
  • Information by State/Territory
  • Site Map

Veterans Job Bank - Search & Advanced Search

To search for jobs using the Veterans Job Bank, type one or more keywords, such as a job title or skill you learned in the military, into the Keyword(s) box on the top left-hand side of any page. Then click the “Find Jobs anywhere” button. You can also type in a military occupational specialty (MOS) or code (MOC) into the MOS/MOC box, and click the “Find Jobs anywhere” button. Using a Google-customized search, the Veterans Job Bank will deliver a selection of job opportunities from around the world. These job openings come from job boards such as Simply Hired, as well as corporate websites and many employers that are specifically interested in hiring Veterans.

In addition to searching for jobs by keyword(s) or MOS/MOC, you can also narrow your search by location to check out job openings near you. Enter the name of a city, state or a zip code into the Location box and click the "Find Jobs near this location" button to the right of the box to search for job openings near that location.

To get to the Advanced Search option, click the words "Advanced Search" located on the right just above the “Find Jobs near this location” box. The "Advanced Search" lets you to narrow your search even more. For example, you can view and select from a list of civilian equivalents when you enter a military occupation code in the MOS/MOC(s) box. You can also narrow your search by unchecking the “Include nearby cities” box under Location. Finally, you have the option of limiting your search to only those jobs posted today, or within the past few days or include all job openings going back as far as the last two months.

NRD Resources - Search & Advanced Search

To search for NRD Resources (the thousands of national and local programs, services and organizations that support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration), choose the NRD Resources tab next to “I want to search” at the top of any page on the National Resource Directory. Type a word or phrase into the Keyword(s) box on the top left-hand side of the page and click the "Find Resources anywhere" button to the right of the box to find results on that subject. In addition to specific words or phrases, you can also enter the name of a city, state or a zip code into the Location box and click the "Find Resources near this location" button to the right of the box to find results for that location.

The Advanced Search option, accessed by clicking the words "Advanced Search" located on the right just above the “Find Resources near this location” box, allows you to search by subject or audience, in addition to a word or phrase or location. You can also specify whether you would like to include government resources, non-government resources, or both. When entering multiple words into the keyword box, you can specify whether the search should match any word or all words. If all words is specified, the search will only return results that contain all of the keywords.

If you choose to search by Location, you can search for resources within a particular radius of the location by choosing a value in the "within x miles of" field. This field only applies to city and zip code searches; if you enter a state as your location the radius selection will not apply and the search will only return resources located within that state. You can also choose the number of results that you would like to see per page by using the drop-down menu next to "Results per Page" at the bottom of the page.
