About Dietary Intakes:

About Dietary Research: Methodologic Research

Our goals in this area are to increase the precision of dietary intake estimates by improving self-report of dietary intake and the analytic procedures for processing reported information. This work is designed to facilitate our monitoring and nutritional epidemiology efforts and to advance our understanding of the relationship of diet to cancer outcomes.

Major initiatives for improving self-reported dietary information include developing and testing a new automated, self-administered 24-hour dietary recall (ASA24™) to assess total diet. One way we are improving analytic procedures is by developing ways to improve the estimates of usual intake as reported in food consumption surveys that employ 24-hour recalls. We also develop and test short screeners to assess particular nutrients or food groups.
