Professor Peng Tee Khaw, current president of The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), visited the NEI on June 6, 2012.

Prof. Khaw is co-leading the United States-United Kingdom collaborative research program along with Dr. Robert Nussenblatt, chief of the NEI Laboratory of Immunology. The research consortium agreement was signed in May 2012 in London and is an important part of the NEI effort to expand international research partnerships and conduct the highest quality scientific research and train the next generation of vision scientists.

Prof. Khaw is director of both the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Center and the Eyes and Vision Program at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He also serves as a professor at University College London's Institute of Ophthalmology Research and Development Center.

Dr. Deborah Carper, NEI deputy director, welcomed Prof. Khaw to the NEI. She commented, "Prof. Khaw's dynamic leadership will bring together world-class scientists to confront eye diseases that threaten the vision of millions of people around the globe." Prof. Khaw met with NEI senior leaders including Drs. Sheldon Miller, Santa Tumminia, Robert Nussenblatt, Matthew McMahon, Emily Chew, and Gyan Prakash. He also toured the ocular immunology labs at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.
