NEI Mourns Richard F. Mercer

Richard Mercer, certified ophthalmic technician with the National Eye Institute, passed away on Monday, January 17. He was 57. Mr. Mercer was a dedicated member of the NEI Clinical Services Section and had served as an ophthalmic technician since 1995. His great sense of humor was well known and delighted NEI staff and the patients.

Mr. Mercer was a valued friend of the Washington D.C. ophthalmologic technician community. He loved ophthalmic technology and had 28 years of experience in the clinical research environment. Before coming to the NEI, he held various ophthalmic technician positions with Greater Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons. He also served in the Air Force from 1971 through 1975.
