Melany Cueva, EdD, MA, BSN

Since 1998, Dr. Cueva has served as the Adult Education Research Specialist for the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) Community Health Aide Program and as an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska.   Since 2009 has also acted as the Project Director for the CDC funded Colorectal Cancer Screening Health Communication Materials project and was a American Cancer Society (ACS) Mentored Research Scholar  for her work ‘Developing Arts-Based Cancer Education with Alaska Native People.’  Prior to her work with ANTHC, she served as a nurse and nurse educator in various schools and hospitals

Dr. Cueva received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Graceland College in Iowa, her Masters in Education Curriculum/Instruction from the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, and her EdD from National Louis University in Chicago, IL.  She has had numerous honors, served as project lead on several NCI and CDC funded projects and co-authored over 20 papers and book chapters in her career.  Dr. Cueva has research experience in qualitative inquiry, community based participatory research, cancer disparities among Alaska Native and American Indian people, Community Health Workers, cancer communication, cancer education research, adult education, arts-based education research, digital storytelling, readers’ theatre.
