The brain, like other parts of the body, bruises and swells after receiving a blow. This can severely limit the flow of blood to the brain and deprive the tissue of oxygen. The lack of oxygen results in the death of brain cells and causes brain damage that can be irreversible. But this does not have to happen in most cases. By adhering to the BTF guidlines there is a two-fold increase in lives saved and double the chance of a good outcome while saving billions of dollars in long term costs.
