Description

The business process models listed below represent the planned “to-be” NIH implementation of the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) enrollment and badge issuance process as defined by Federal Information Processing Standards Publication 201-1 (FIPS 201) and mandated by Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12).

The Overview Model is a high level representation of the complete end-to-end NIH PIV business process.  The overview shows the sequence of business functions that will be performed to issue and manage NIH PIV badges.   The overview serves as a table of contents and frame of reference for the 21 detailed business process models that describe each specific business function (e.g., register applicant).

The detailed business process models document each PIV business function in terms of:

  • Activities – The set of tasks that are performed to achieve the goals and objectives of the business function.
  • Resources – The people, organizations, and/or systems required to complete each business activity.
  • Data – The information that is consumed by, updated, or produced by a business activity.

The process models also show the sequence of tasks and dependencies between the tasks in performing the business function.

These models were updated in August 2009.
