Dr. Jie Zou conducts research on information retrieval from online HTML medical journal articles, text categorization, and natural language processing, in the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications, an intramural R&D division of the National Library of Medicine, at the National Institutes of Health. He received the BS and MS degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 1994 and 1997, respectively, and the PhD degree in computer engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, in 2004. Dr. Zou is a member of the IEEE and the IEEE Computer Society. His research interest is in the areas of statistical pattern recognition, data mining, image processing and computer vision.


Current Projects

Web-Based Medical Article Record System (WebMARS): Web-Based Medical Article Record System (WebMARS) is for automating the production of bibliographic records from online medical journal articles for MEDLINE/PubMed. I designed and implemented an online HTML journal article geometric and logical layout analysis algorithm, which integrates DOM tree and Hidden Markov Model to extract certain information from articles.
