CERTIFICATES OF ORIGIN AND IDENTITY FOR HUNGARIAN WINES

Importers, and others concerned:

Purpose. The purpose of this circular is to inform importers of Hungarian Wines that all such wines shipped from foreign ports on and after October 15, 1959, must be accompanied by appropriate certificates of origin and identity issued under authority of the Hungarian Government with respect to such wines.

Background. Refer to Industry Circulars 58-35, 59-5, 59-28 and 59-49.

Conclusion. The Hungarian Chamber of Commerce (Magyar Kereskedelmi Kamara) is an official body of the Hungarian Government and is authorized under law to issue its certificate of origin and identity for all Hungarian Wines.

In all instances the certificate must identify the wine covered thereby as follows:

1. Number and description of containers (whether cases or barrels).

2. Marks and numbers on cases or barrels.

3. Total quantity.

4. Designation and description of wine (under heading "Contents").

The certificate must be signed by the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce.

In order to avoid detention of merchandise at the ports of entry, all importers of Hungarian Wines should advise their principals abroad of these provisions. Importers are also reminded of the provisions of Industry Circular No.59-49, with respect to certificates required for wines exported in bulk from countries of origin and bottled in other countries prior to shipment to the United States.
