United States Cancer Statistics

The United States Cancer Statistics (USCS) is the most comprehensive federal report available on state-specific cancer rates. This report includes cancer incidence data obtained from registries in 49 states, 6 metropolitan areas, and the District of Columbia, covering 99% of the U.S. population. Mortality data from all states and the District of Columbia also were included and cover 100% of the U.S. population. The report supplies essential state, population, racial, ethnic and gender information for tailored cancer prevention and control programs nationwide.

The USCS is produced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the NCI, in collaboration with the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR). The annual report provides a basis for individual states and researchers to describe the variability in cancer incidence and death rates across different populations and to focus on certain populations for evidence-based cancer control programs.

The latest report, United States Cancer Statistics (USCS): 1999-2007 Incidence and Mortality Web-based ReportExternal Web Site Policy, was released in December 2010 and is available on the CDC Web site.
