Description of Responsibilities:
The mission of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) is to coordinate the Federal response on
homelessness and to create a national partnership at every level of government and with the private sector to reduce and end homelessness in the nation while maximizing the effectiveness of the Federal Government in contributing to the end of homelessness. Currently USICH is implementing the first-ever Federal Strategic Plan to Prevent and End homelessness as the Administration’s response to this important issue. USICH is comprised of 19 federal agencies and entities, and currently chaired by Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.
USICH is seeking graduate students to support its work on behalf of the nation’s homeless population. Varied assignments, depending on who intern is assigned to, may include, but not be limited to
- Research and compilation of information, statistics, studies, etc. on housing related issues;
- Coordination of activities, meetings, forums and USICH initiatives with federal, state, local and private stakeholders around the U.S.;
- Accounting, budget and administrative/operational support;
- Tracking and analysis of appropriations and authorizing legislative developments;
- Assessment of resource implications of policy decisions;
- Analysis of federal programs, policies, and procedures as they relate to the federal response to homelessness-related issues;
- Writing and editing a variety of publications, technical assistance materials, and other documents related to the work of USICH;
- Compilation of content for website; website management; and,
- Special Projects, as assigned.
Experience:
Applicants must be self-starters who are flexible, able to balance multiple competing tasks, work well under tight deadlines, and have excellent organizational skills. Additionally, applicants must have the ability to perform research, think critically, write succinctly, manage multiple deadlines, and work both independently and in a team-based environment. Domestic policy knowledge and/or experience is a plus. Graduate students only, should apply. Various majors including Public Health/Health Sciences, Communications/Public Affairs/Journalism, Social Work, Accounting/Finance, Public Administration, JD, and related masters/professional degree programs.
