    The eRA SPIRES (Scientific Publication Information Retrieval and Evaluation System) database contains over 1.5 million NIH publications and over 3.3 million mappings between publications and NIH research grants spanning 30 years. This introduction to SPIRES will include a survey of what is in the database how to use QVR bibliography reports to access SPIRES data an overview of the SPIRES query interface and how to use the SPIRES data visualization tools and standard reports for portfolio analysis.

    A basic knowledge of how to use the QVR system will make the information presented more useful."
