Background

In February 2012, a local environmental organization asked ATSDR to evaluate whether the community near the Radford Army Ammunition Plant was being exposed to harmful chemicals. ATSDR is evaluating the data and community health concerns related to drinking water from surface and groundwater sources. The agency will summarize the results of its evaluation in a health consultation report in 2014. The purpose of the health consultation is to evaluate whether exposures to the surface and ground water pose a public health hazard to residents living near the site. It will also inform the community of any actions the agency recommends to prevent or reduce exposures.

###

ATSDR, a federal public health agency of the U.S., Department of Health and Human Services, evaluates the potential for adverse human health effects due to exposure to hazardous substances in the environment.
