2012 IRSAC Report Made Available at Public Meeting
The Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC) is holding it’s annual public meeting today at The Embassy Suites Hotel, 1250 22nd Street, NW Washington, DC. IRSAC will release its annual report that includes recommendations on a wide range of tax administration issues.
The Commissioner’s Advisory Group (“CAG”) – was established in 1953 as a “national policy and/or issue advisory committee.” It is the first Advisory Group to the Commissioner of Internal Revenue. CAG was renamed “Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council (IRSAC)” in 1998 to focus as an advisory body to the entire agency. The IRSAC’s primary purpose is to provide an organized public forum for senior IRS executives and representatives of the public to discuss relevant tax administration issues.
Based on its findings and discussions, IRSAC made several recommendations on a broad array of issues and concerns including some of the following:
- Streamlining the Audit Process|
- Managing Knowledge in the Issue Practice Groups and International Practice Networks
- Improving Lien Withdrawal processing
- Enhancing the availability of electronic completion and filing For 1099-Miscellaneous
- Increasing BMF Electronic Filing
- Enhancing the reporting of dispositions of capital assets on Forms
- Tax Practitioner obligations and competency

IRSAC is administered by the National Public Liaison Office. IRSAC draws its members from the tax professional community and members of academia.
