SECTION 1. PURPOSE.

.01 The Order establishes policy and procedures for ensuring uniform signs in the corridors of the Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB).

.03 This revision provides a general update to the Order.

SECTION 2. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS.

.01 Permanent corridor signs of the HCHB shall only be approved by the Department's Office of Administrative Services (OAS) for design consistency, dimensional requirements, production specifications, and installation procedures. See samples of approved signs shown in Exhibits 1 through 3 of this Order.

.02 Signs displaying the Department seal or official organizational unit emblems, room number, and official titles will be used to identify entry doors. The sign shall consist of the following format in sequence: office title, division title (if applicable), title of the division director or higher ranking official, and the name of the residing official at division or higher level. This design shall also be used to identify special assistants in the immediate office of the Secretary.

03 Signs with a Departmental or officially approved organizational emblem or logo will be the designated signs for non-entry doors.

SECTION 3. USE OF SIGNS.

.01 New permanent signs shall be procured and installed by OAS when an internal HCHB organizational relocation occurs.

.02 Alpha-numeric room designations shall not be changed or removed from the specified installed sign holders except by OAS.

.01 Organizational units of the Department initiating requests for signs shall:

a. Complete a Printing and Binding Requisition (SF-1), including information required in Section 2 of this Order;

b. Transmit requests through the appropriate organizational administrative offices for approval and forwarding to OAS; and

c. Include an appropriation number with each request for reimbursement through financial accounting procedures.

.02 The Office of Administrative Services shall:

a. Evaluate all requests for eligibility, accuracy of form, printing technology requirements, design, and graphic aesthetics;

b. Approve or disapprove the request and notify the originating Departmental office or operating unit; and

c. Prepare work order for acquisition action.

SECTION 5. RESTRICTIONS.

The following restrictions shall apply throughout the HCHB:

a. No signs shall be posted on any floor, wall, door or other place in HCHB corridors unless approval has been obtained in writing from OAS. Signs not in compliance with this restriction shall be removed. All approved signs shall be installed by OAS.

b. Decals shall not be installed or placed on floors, walls or doors in HCHB corridors unless approval has been obtained in writing from OAS. Any decals not in compliance with this restriction shall be removed. All approved decals shall be installed by OAS.
