This report documents the research activities and presents the results of a study conducted by NHTSA to evaluate the accuracy of the Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) battery to assist officers in making arrest decisions and to discriminate blood alcohol concentrations (BACs) below .10 g/dL. The results of this study provide clear evidence of the validity of the SFST battery to discriminate at .08 g/dL BAC, using a slightly modified scoring procedure.
