Funded by NHTSA and Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC), the EMS Workforce Agenda for the Future identifies four components critical to the development of a thriving EMS workforce that will be a driving force for achieving integrated, community-based EMS systems. NHTSA has partnered with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to improve injury surveillance and ambulance safety using NEISS-WORK. NEISS-WORK
collects data on work-related nonfatal injuries and illness treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments, and together, NIOSH and NHTSA are using the system to gather nationally representative data about line-of-duty injuries within EMS.
