Office of Legislative Affairs

The Office of Legislative Affairs is the principal liaison between the Commission and members and committees of Congress. It provides information and assistance to Congress on matters of Commission policy, and coordinates testimony and appearances by Commissioners and agency personnel before Congress.

  • Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA) (PDF)

    The CPSA, enacted in 1972, established the Consumer Product Safety Commission, defined its basic authority, and provided that when the CPSC found an unreasonable risk of injury associated with a consumer product it could develop a standard to reduce or eliminate said risk.

  • Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) (PDF)

  • Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA) (PDF)

    The FHSA requires that certain hazardous household products ("hazardous substances") bear cautionary labeling to alert consumers to the potential hazards that those products present and to inform them of the measures they need to protect themselves from those hazards.

     

  • Flammable Fabrics Act (FFA) (PDF)
