Dr. Kotz is an adjunct staff clinician at the Medical Oncology Branch, NCI. After completion of a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Kotz practiced obstetrics and gynecology in the Army at Fort Campbell for 2 years. He then completed subspecialty training in gynecologic oncology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute. This was followed by 35 years of private practice, during which time he was a consultant for Group Health Association and ran the gynecologic oncology services at different hospitals, including the Washington Hospital Center and Columbia Hospital. He also served in the gynecologic oncology departments of Georgetown University Hospital and George Washington University Hospital. Since retiring from private practice in 1999, Dr. Kotz has been a consultant at the Medical Oncology Branch, Center for Cancer Research, NCI. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as gynecologic oncology and is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, the Felix Rutledge Society, and the Society of Memorial Gynecologic Oncologists.

Dr. Kotz is currently working with Drs. Tito Fojo, Susan Bates, and Elise Kohn in support of clinical studies for cervical and ovarian cancer.

Clinical Trials Research

The Medical Oncology Branch (MOB) has the following major functions: (1) clinical research, (2) clinical care, and (3) clinical training. The purpose of these functions is:

1) To develop novel therapeutic research strategies for the treatment of cancer and to test those strategies by conducting clinical research in medical oncology across a spectrum of diseases and disease mechanisms;

2) To provide clinical care to adult cancer patients enrolled in research protocols, including inpatient and outpatient care services, across the Center for Cancer Research (CCR); and

3) To train physician-scientists in a laboratory-to-clinic translational research setting to promote the development of their expertise in medical oncology research and to support their board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
