2010 Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation Licensing Process Conference

Date: Wednesday, June 23 and Thursday, June 24, 2010

Location: NRC Headquarters Two White Flint Auditorium

The conference was held as part of the NRC staff's initiative to continuously improve the licensing process for 10 CFR Part 71 and 10 CFR Part 72 licensing actions. Participants were encouraged to interact with the NRC staff and with colleagues to discuss insights on how interactions could be more effective and efficient.

Conference topics included the Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation’s (SFST's) "rules of engagement" with licensees, lessons learned regarding the existing licensing processes, and an open discussion on ideas for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the licensing process.  The information centered on where the licensing process has taken us, its status, and where it will go in the next 3 to 5 years.  Participants included SFST management and staff, representatives from industry, and other stakeholders.
