Mammography Prevalence within 2 Two Years (Age 40+): Maps and Data of Model-Based Small Area Estimates

Definition: For mammography, a woman 40 years of age or older must have reported having at least one mammography in her life. Furthermore, she should have had one within the last two years by the time of interview.

The mammography prevalence question was asked in BRFSS in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and the even years after 2000 as part of the core questionnaire for all states, and in NHIS in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2008. The question was worded in similar ways on the two surveys.

Available estimates are for the time periods 1997-1999 and 2000-2003 and are shown on maps and in data tables by health service area (HSA) and state. Estimates for all counties except those in Alaska are included in the data tables for corresponding HSAs. To view the most recent estimates on a map with drill-down to states and counties, see State Cancer Profiles.

We included women aged 40+ for these estimates, as 40+ was the recommended range for mammography study in the past. We could consider 50+ in future work.
