Deputy Chief of Mission L. Victor Hurtado
 

   Victor Hurtado is a career Foreign Service Officer who has spent the majority of his career working on the Middle East issues.  He most recently served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Muscat, Oman and, prior to that, completed a long-term training assignment at the National War College. 

    Mr. Hurtado headed the Office of Iraq Affairs, serving concurrently for six months as acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq Affairs.  He previously served in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  He has been posted abroad also to Tunis, Damascus, Ottawa, Mexico City and on the Israel-Lebanon Monitoring Group.  At the Department of State, he served also on the Lebanon desk, as staff assistant to the Near Eastern Affairs Assistant Secretary, and in the State Department Operations Center. 

   He has received multiple Superior and Meritorious Honor Awards.  In addition to his MS degree from the War College, Victor holds an MBA from the University of Denver, and a BA from University of California, Los Angeles.  He is married to Margaret Haas and has three children.
