The Presidential Management Fellows program was established in 1977 to attract outstanding individuals from a variety of academic disciplines who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs. This two-year program has helped agencies meet their workforce and succession planning needs by attracting masters, law, and doctoral students to federal service.
HHS has hired over 1,000 PMFs since the program was established.
HHS averages 60 PMF hires annually.
Many managers have met their hiring needs through the PMF program.
Coordinators in each Operating Division handle recruitment of PMFs.
HHS offers training, rotational assignments, and professional development.
